Fortunately for us, there are a lot of people out there working hard to make our lives easier. In the tangible world, we have little devices and appliances that make every day life easier. In internet land, there are all sorts of programs and applications that make our jobs online easier. Tools for searching, analysis, tracking, generating, statistics, slicing and dicing, and how to make a cake. Well, maybe not so much on the making of a cake, but I am sure someone is working on it! The bottom line is, all of these tools assist us in what we do, and having them in a handy list can be quite helpful.

Why The Small Guy Has a Big Advantage

You may feel belittled by the big businesses out there, but in reality you have many more facets available in the business world than they do. Where they are spending large sums of money on single endeavors, you are frugally spending time and money on a multitude of outlets for your business. Sometimes, a hundred little guys are better than one big one.

When larger businesses go to set up new websites or products, they tend to do it all the same way: spend lots of money and lots of time for one project. Being a smaller business, you usually don’t have all of that extra money and time to spend on one task, so you’re going to spread your resources out to cover all of the bases (as any company should). Big businesses can really learn from the little guys.

So, you’re a small business, where do you start?

There are tons of niches you can get into. Larger businesses generally ignore the little helpful ones and go straight for the gold. This all makes sense if you think about in their mindset: we are big, we are spending big, we will go for big. Who doesn’t want to go for big? That is why you’re a business after all, but you are going to do some vitally important work to get yourself in there, and make your position last.

Let’s talk about your internet-connectivity.

Having a website is really your starting point. No, you don’t have to have the prettiest website (though people are generally more attracted to them), but it needs to look professional, and you need to supply quality information. What is your product/service? How is it different from the other guys? Why is yours better than theirs? What do you have to offer that keeps them coming back for more?
